What is Safe Mode?

3. On the Recovery screen, under Advanced startup option, select Restart now.

4. Computer will restart and take you to the Choose an option screen. Select Troubleshoot.

5. After that, click on Advanced options.

6. Now, select Startup Settings.

7. Further, click on Restart.

8. After the computer restarts, you will see the options as below.

  2. Restart your computer by pressing the SHIFT key while you select the Power button on the bottom right corner of the sign-in screen.

How to reboot to safe mode from a black or blank screen?

Suppose, if your computer is not booting to the desktop, you can follow these steps to enter to safe mode. In order to perform this step, you need to enter to Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). To enter WinRE, you need to repeatedly turn OFF and ON your computer.

  1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn OFF your computer. Press the power button again to turn it ON.
  2. As soon as the computer restarts, after the manufacturer’s logo, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn OFF your device. Again, press power button to turn it ON.
  3. Perform the same task one more time. After that, restart the computer and allow it to turn ON. It will take you to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  4. Now, when you are in WinRE, you will get the Choose an option screen.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions as below and select the options Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.

6. Once the computer restarts, it will show the above options. On the keyboard, you can press number key 4 to login to safe mode, 5 to login to safe mode with networking and 6 to login to safe mode with command prompt.
